Condition of aluminum alloys

CONDITION OF ALUMINIUM ALLOYS

The mechanical and technological properties of aluminium alloy products are determined not only by the chemical composition, but also by the method of production and heat treatment. For example, cold-rolled sheet is stronger and harder but less ductile than hot-rolled sheet of the same alloy. The character of the alloy thus technologically conditioned is described by the term condition. The condition of the alloy is thus the result of the whole production process, it corresponds to the final material structure and expresses the set of properties after a given method of production and heat treatment. For aluminium alloys there are several states.

There are two labelling systems:

  • numerical,
  • na základe chemických značiek.

For formable aluminium alloys, the marking method used by the Aluminium Association (AA) in Washington, USA, has been adopted in international practice.

The numerical designation consists of:

  • the letters EN indicating that it is a European standard,
  • the letters AW (Aluminium Wrought, indicating aluminium alloy wrought),
  • a four digit number, the first number indicating the main alloying element is (1xxx -pure aluminium Al 99.9% and above, 2xxx - copper Cu, 3xxx - manganese Mn, 4xxx -silicon Si, 5xxx - magnesium Mg, 6xxx - magnesium with silicon MgSi, 7xxx - zinc Zn, 8xxx - other element, 9xxx - unused batch, d) an indication of the condition in which the alloys are supplied.

DEFINITION OF THE STATE OF THE MATERIAL

  • F1 production status
  • H12 deformationally reinforced - 1/4 hard
  • H14 deformation hardened - 1/2 hard
  • H111 moulded, slightly deformation hardened during successive operations such as straining or straightening
  • H112 slightly deformation-hardened after high-temperature forming or after cold forming with limited size
  • H22 deformation hardened and partially melted - 1/4 hard
  • H24 deformation hardened and partially melted - 1/2 hard
  • H32 deformation hardened and stabilised - 1/4 hard
  • H34 deformation hardened and stabilised - 1/2 hard
  • H36 deformation hardened and stabilised - 3/4 hard
  • H38 deformationally stiffened and stabilised - 4/4 hard
  • T1 condition after cooling after elevated forming temperature and natural ageing
  • T2 Condition after cooling after elevated forming temperature, cold forming and natural ageing
  • T3 condition after dissolution annealing, cold forming and natural ageing
  • T351 condition after dissolution annealing, release of internal stresses, shutting down to the exact size (for sheet - permanent deformation 0,5 % to 3 %, for plate 1,5 % to 3 %, for rolled or cold-finished bar - 1 % to 3 %, for free-forged round forgings and rolled rounds - 1 % to 5 % and natural ageing. These products are not further equilibrated after shutdown.
  • T352 condition after dissolution annealing, release of internal stress by compression with permanent deformation of 1 % to 5 % and natural ageing
  • T4 condition after dissolution annealing and natural ageing
  • T451 condition after dissolution annealing, release of internal stresses, straining to the exact size (for sheet - permanent deformation of 0,5 % to 3 %, for plate 1,5 % to 3 %, for rolled or cold finished bar - 1 % to 3 %, for free forged round forgings and rolled rounds - 1 % to 5 % and natural ageing. These products are not further equilibrated after shutdown.
  • T5 condition after cooling from elevated forming temperature and artificial ageing
  • T6 condition after dissolution annealing and artificial ageing
  • T651 condition after solution annealing, release of internal stresses, shutting down to the exact size (for sheet - permanent deformation 0,5 % to 3 %, for plate - 1,5 % to 3 %, for rolled or cold finished bar - 1 % to 3 %, for free-forged round forging and rolled round - 1 % to 5 % and natural ageing. After shutdown, these products are not further equilibrated.
  • T7 condition after dissolution annealing and artificial ageing
  • T8 condition after dissolution annealing
